"In questi notturni il tono ha la precedenza sul colore, come lo sbiadirsi della luce del sole drena il mondo delle sue tinte. Visto che questi dipinti sono quasi monocromatici, mi piace miscelare abbastanza colore per completarli, spesso disponendo una serie di ciotole con varie diluzioni del colore originale. Uso dei pennelli larghi per aiutare il colore a fluire sulla carta, e poi pennelli più piccoli, bastoncini e righelli per le linee, e penne intinte nell’acquarello per i dettagli. Sembra, detta così, una cosa semplice, eppure è sempre imprevedibile, spontanea, indipendente, adamantina e ostinata; si deve stare sempre all’erta per poter prendere decisioni istantanee, prendersi i propri rischi, senza temere di perder qualcosa. Accettare ciò che ci viene dato, e lavorarci su. Essere consenzienti. Osservatori. Del tutto presenti." - Naomi Tydeman
"In these nocturnes, tone takes precedence over colour as the fading of sunlight drains the world of its hues. Because these paintings are almost monochromatic I like to mix enough paint to complete them, often setting out a series of bowls with varying dilutions of the original colour. I use wide brushes to help push the poured paint over the paper, thinner brushes, sticks and rulers for the lines, pens dipped in watercolour for the details. It sounds simple, and it is, but it’s also unpredictable, spontaneous, independent, adamant and willful and you have to be in a state of extreme alertness – to make snap decisions, to take risks, to not be afraid to lose something. Naomi Tydeman è una acquarellista autodidatta, vincitrice di vari premi a livello nazionale per via del suo stile innovativo e per il suo uso della luce e della trama. Ha largamente esplorato le qualità dell’acquerello, sperimentando continuamente, anche forzando i confini di questo mezzo incredibile. Nel 1998 ha aperto la sua galleria-studio a Tenby, un luogo in cui la bellezza naturale del Pembrokeshire fornisce l’ispirazione di gran parte delle sue opere. Ha esposto in varie gallerie del Regno Unito, e le sue opere si trovano in molte collezioni private nel mondo. Ha vinto, tra gli altri, i seguenti premi prestigiosi: Turner Watercolour Prize (2013); Winsor and Newton Prize (2010); John Blockley Prize (2008); Frank Herring Prize (2005); Watercolour Prize, Welsh Artist of the Year Competition (2005). Naomi Tydeman is a self-taught watercolourist who has won awards nationally for her innovative styles and the use of light and texture. She continually experiments with materials and keeps on pushing the boundaries of the medium. In 1998, she opened her own studio/gallery in Tenby, where the natural beauty of Pembrokeshire provides the inspiration for much of her work. She shows in galleries across the United Kingdom and her work can be found in private collections around the world. She has been awarded, among others, the following prizes: Turner Watercolour Prize (2013); Winsor and Newton Prize (2010); John Blockley Prize (2008); Frank Herring Prize (2005); Watercolour Prize, Welsh Artist of the Year Competition (2005).
